Last Comic Standing Season 7 - First Half of the Top Ten

Wants to apologize to everyone watching Last Comic Standing. If you're looking for a black comic in this week's top 5, they didn't make it. They were either not funny, a victim of racism, or weren't a serious choice anyway. Be back next week for funny. BTW, I bet that there will be 2 @ the most next week to move on.

Yeah, I said it.  Not to be racially charged, because it is but to state facts.  This is TV...primetime TV.  Since it is network television, the producers are already mindful of who they need/want to go on to the Top Ten this season and that top 10 must represent America.  They aren't selling you comedy.  They are selling you whatever the commercials during the show are advertising.

Take note on the ones that went on to the top 10 that weren't as funny as the ones that didn't. They all have different looks. It was more of a diversity casting call than competition. => Hispanic + African American + GLBT + Female + WASP + Asian + 5 combos of the already listed for Primetime TV.

I was upset that Kyle Grooms and Chip Pope didn't get to the top 5 either, and they represent 2 other minorities, African Americans & the GLBT.  (He said he was gay. IJS)  Kyle is hilarious and you'd know this if you've seen his Comedy Central Special.  Chip was hilarious and actually thought he had a shot to win it all...so sad.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree?  Am I full of it?!!!  Let me know.
Stay blessed.

Last Comic Standing Season 7, Episode 3!!!

For some reason, you never get bored watching LCS auditions.  If its not weirdos in line that want to make a point, then its the weirdos that make it inside and actually use the microphone.  Lucky for us though that the judges could relate to right weirdos.

In this group we have a writer for Steve Harvey, a writer for Greg Giraldo, an ex-heroin addict, a former "Best Female Stand-Up", a Chappelle's Show cast member, a clean comic, a writer, a Comedy Central writer, and one of Entertainment Weekly's Top 12 Comics to Watch in 2009.

So NBC must be a year late...

Here are the comedians that made it to the semi-finals:
Alycia Cooper
Mike DeStefano
Claudia Cogan
Kurt Metzger
Tommy Johnagin
Jamie Lee
Amanda Melson
Jesse Joyce
Roy Wood Jr.

The links above are for the comics web page and should be SFW, but be careful about the media links!!!

Summer Comedy Series Part 1: The Good Guys

Anyone that has been watching Fox during the past 20 years knows that the Fox Network will double down on animated series, suspense, and talent competitions but will only place a side bet on scripted comedy.  And to make matters worse, they will schedule those few scripted comedies either on early Sunday nights (during Evening Service) or on late Saturday nights (when the club just ran out of appetizers and the 'free' champagne).

Fox is trying something new with "The Good Guys" starring Colin Hanks (Orange County) & Bradley Whitford (Billy Madison).  Its a spoof on the "good cop, bad cop" cop show, which works since the writers also use the "goofball guy & straight line guy" pairing.  You had Bob Hope + Bing Crosby, Abbott & Costello, Craig & Smokey, Craig & Dey-Dey, and now Colin & Bradley.
The polarizing characters work.

I don't know why I haven't seen more of Colin Hanks and maybe I'm too lazy to go to wiki or imdb to find out.  I thought he was hilarious in Orange County that also co-starred Jack Black ( another goofball character king).  Bradley Whitford has been all over the place, but I remember him best as the nemesis of Adam Sandler in the movie Billy Madison.
The show is written by some of the same people behind "Past Life" & "Men of a Certain Age"

I'm not here to criticize the writing or the acting, so I won't.

Just know that they are keeping it funny on "The Good Guys."

Last Comic Standing Season 7 Kickoff

First, I have to say thank you for stopping by. If you didn't know, this is the unofficial launch of LaughandCryComedy.com. And I just couldn't wait until July thanks to Last Comic Standing Season 7

The first episode featured auditions in Los Angeles at The Improv. If you follow standup comedy, you already know that most working comics fly home to NYC or LAX. So its no surprise that NBC picked L.A. as the first episode. This season is hosted by Craig Robinson from The Office & Hot Tub Time Machine. The judges this year are Greg Giraldo (Comedy Central's Tough Crowd), Natasha Leggero (Reno 911), and Andy Kindler (Everybody Loves Raymond). Quite honestly, they had me at Craig Robinson. He's been doing standup for almost 20 years, and he is hilarious.

There are a few highlights from tonight's episode.

High Point
Maronzio Vance - I don't know if you heard of him or not, but he caught my attention a couple of years ago on YouTube in "Puffy is Poison" I have that clip below, but I must warn you. If you're not fully aware of 90's HipHop/R&B, it will not be funny. His delivery was dry, yet timely, and his point of view is one that you can relate to. Watch for more him!

Low Point
Guy Torre - Guy Torre, the younger brother of Joe Torre, is on a reality show/competition of standup comedians??? How many movies has he been in? I thought he was the black BFF of Rob Schneider.

I have seen how these auditions go down, and they are pretty much the equivalent of an exclusive nightclub with the velvet rope. If you don't know a guy or have a certain look, you could be in line all day.

But not all hope is lost.... Craig Robinson is there.

We will continue to follow LCS7.
